Blaggards are heading back to Ireland in 2012, and YOU are invited!

This year, for the first time, our tour includes stops in Northern Ireland! We’ll stay in Belfast and Donegal, as well as Dublin and Galway in the South. Blaggards will be playing shows in several different locations along the tour route (dates TBA).

So here’s the news. Blaggards are no longer a quartet.

On New Year’s Eve we were joined by a brand new Blaggard, Bryce Clarke! Those of you who have been coming to a lot of our shows lately have already met Mr. Clarke, who also happens to be Brandi’s husband. Bryce plays guitar and mandolin like you’ve never heard (unless you’ve already heard him), and joins us now as a full-time member after four years with terrific Texas country artist Max Stalling.

So begins 2012. We’re really excited about the year ahead, and we hope you are, too. See you on the road. In the meantime, check out this video of Bryce playing “Foggy Dew” with us at Dan Electro’s Guitar Bar.

Meanwhile, we opened the new Ashford Pub at its new location at Westhiemer and Eldridge. The Ashford Army marches on! We’ll be back there again in January.

Also coming up this month are THREE shows in College Station at O’Bannon’s Tap House (TONIGHT, Friday December 9, plus Wednesday the 14th and Friday the 16th), a Christmas party at Olde City Pub in Houston on Saturday December 17, and the annual Rock the Shelter Toy Drive at the Continental Club Houston on Sunday, December 18.

Finally, we’ll be doing New Year’s Eve in Austin at Fadó.

The Russian webzine MetalTime.ru posted a brief article about us today (Google translation). The article includes our video of us performing “Whiskey in the Jar” in Dublin in March 2010.

It’s always a thrill to see our music reaching new fans in other countries. It would have been nice if MetalTime had embedded our original YouTube video instead of re-hosting it and branding it with their own logo, but we appreciate the support all the same. Thank you MetalTime!

Blaggards go on at 4 PM. Also performing are Constant Billy, Murder the Stout, and the O’Maoileidigh School of Irish Dance.

There’ll be a free picnic with hot dogs, hamburgers, "bunny dogs" (grilled carrots on a bun), potato salad & cole slaw, etc.

We’re thrilled to announce that our rendition of "Big Strong Man" from our first CD Standards appears in the new film The Kid, starring Rupert Friend (Pride & Prejudice), Natascha McElhone (The Truman Show), and Ioan Gruffudd (Fantastic Four). Directed by Nick Moran (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels), and based on the best-selling book by Kevin Lewis.

The Kid premieres in the UK September 17. US and worldwide release dates have yet to be announced, but you’ll be the first to know!

Blaggards are one of the first independent artists to have a profile on Ping – Apple’s new social network built into iTunes.

We just got this set up yesterday evening, and it’s pretty fun. Basically, you can hang out with us there and talk about music (You’ll need to have iTunes 10 installed). See you there!

[Edited to add]: Apple is now listing us as a featured artist in Ping, right alongside 50 Cent, Lady Gaga and U2!
