A Great Big Week… and Bon Voyage Turi!

Friday July 20th, we played to a monstrous crowd at O’Bannon’s Tap House in College Station for the pub’s 2nd Anniversary (with hors d’oeuvres courtesy of the Carr Bros.)

Saturday the 21st, we were thrilled and honored to open for the legendary Brave Combo at Fitzgerald’s 30th Anniversary show. It was great to play for all our Houston pals whom we hadn’t seen in a long time. Brave Combo of course brought the house down—this was the second time we played with them, and we can’t wait to do it again.

Wednesday the 25th was O’Bannon’s real 2nd Anniversary, so we returned to play our first “acoustic” show. Chris sang “Rocky Road to Dublin” with us (and Clayton did an interpretive dance). Great turnout, lots of energy. Congrats to Chris and Clayton for yet another great year and a bloody fine pub.

Thursday, we had a nice jog after tea.

Early Friday afternoon we piled into the van and headed to the Lakewood Bar & Grill (LBG for short) in Dallas, where soundman Travis stole the show. Big thanks to Bob Hardy for filming the gig and giving us the DVD afterwards (watch 2 songs from the show below), and Branwen for helping us move all the merch.

Thanks also to Dave and all the crew at LBG, a great room—we hope to back soon to play a show with our friends Catfish Whiskey.

Saturday, after a lengthy jog, we headed north to play one of the finest music venues in the land, the Iron Horse Pub in Wichita Falls. Great to find a room so well equipped with a talented soundman as well. Thanks to Danny, John, Amy, Christian and the crew (sorry about the bar tab).

Sunday, after another lengthy jog, it was back home for the Houston Press Music Awards Showcase. We were completely blown away by the crowd, who packed the room wall-to-wall, shook the floors and demanded no less than two encores (“the only encore I saw all night” says Greg Ellis at Houston Press). It was a perfect send-off for Turi, who relocated to San Francisco this week.

Safe journeys Tuffy! We’ll see you on the road… (jogging?)

As always,
THANKS TO YOU ALL FOR THE SUPPORT AND CRUMPET!
